Windmill Nursery has been a place for people to grow, garden, gather, and find inspiration in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Our 5-acre, family-owned garden center in Buellton has served the community for more than four decades, becoming a destination for gardeners, homeowners, landscapers, and plant lovers. Across the nursery, you'll find thousands of plants and garden essentials: from trees, shrubs, roses, and fruit trees to California natives, drought-tolerant plants, flowers, houseplants, pottery, soil, and more.

MEET THE TEAM

NICK THARP - PRESIDENT

Nick has taken a circuitous route to becoming a nursery professional. A trained landscape architect, commercial fisherman, outdoorsman and father. He worked in the landscape architecture industry for 10 years before pursuing a life of commercial fishing. In 2024, he made the decision to leave his life at sea and find an outlet that blended his love of nature, family and landscape. A longtime patron of Windmill, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to provide a service and continue a legacy rooted in the fabric of this community.
